Talk to students by local sports personality, referee

Clayton Pisani.

On the 6th May 2013, as part of the Comenius project, Clayton Pisani, a Malta premier league and UEFA referee came to our school to deliver a brief talk to our students.  Mr. Pisani stared refereeing in 1995.  He has refereed under 13s/17s/19s football matches as well as third, second and first division matches.  Up till now, he has refereed 140 matches of the Malta Premier League and 25 FIFA matches.

Mr. Pisani explained to the students what his work involves, also outlining the obligatory and rigorous training referees have to attend.  He recounted some of his more memorable experiences, such as when he was trying to referee a football match in Estonia with the football players trying to play in 30cm of snow.  The game had to be stopped after 20 minutes.

What the students found to be most intriguing was a small workshop organised by Mr. Pisani.  He showed students clips from famous UEFA games and the students had to try to decide whether the moves shown on screen had been penalties, fouls, simulations or play-ons.

Clean-up mission and beach sports day

On the 17th May 2013, Form 4 students from Malta took part in a day filled with various activities.  Students were first taken to Manikata, a small village in the North of Malta and from there they went on a hike led by Janice Cachia Schembri from the Malta Sport Council, together with their teachers to Majjistral Park, also in the North of Malta.  Here, students made a clean-up of the area by picking up any litter, such as plastic bottles, bags, etc. left on the way.

From Majjistral Park, the students then walked to Golden Bay where they took part in various sports activities on the beach, including rugby, an obstacle course, team-building activities and tug-of-war.  The day came to an end with a barbecue lunch before the students were taken back to school.
